Let the light in / Limited Edition Artist Print
When I came to the realisation that it wasn't just me that wasn't perfect, that none of us are. That we are all a little bit broken in some way, I felt a lot lighter.
I became kinder and more compassionate to people. This print is inspired by a number of things.
When I had my mastectomy and radiation, I not only felt broken, I also looked a bit broken. As I started talking about my scars, I was reminded that in Japan, when an object is broken, the cracks are filled with gold to repair it. They believe that when something has suffered damage and has a history it becomes more beautiful. I really loved this sentiment and have kept it close to my heart.
The other day, I read the quote by Rumi that read 'The wound is the place where light enters you' and it resonated SO much. In fact it would probably sum up quite perfectly the last 3 years of my life and my struggles to overcome anxiety, cancer and self worth issues. To become the happiest I may have ever been. It is because of those things I had to uncover the deeper uglier issues, I had hidden from my whole life.
I had the idea to paint this right before I fell asleep, in those few minutes where you are most in tune with your subconscious.
My artwork is now an expression of the things I have learnt, the things I feel and the things I hope will connect with you, empower you and inspire you.
I chose the quote
'Blessed are the cracked, for they shall let in the light' by Max Groucho as I felt it combined both of the sentiments behind the print so well.
